TP-Link's Kasa smart dimmers and switch are consistently rated positively and for a short time only, they can be yours for less than usual. The following models fit the standard US wall plate size and require a neutral wire. While some have a preference for Zigbee or Z-Wave devices, these all rely on 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi. This does have the advantage of not requiring a hub.

The HS200 is a rocker switch and rated for 600 W, which should cover even the most extravagant home lighting. It sports a rather understated design, which in my books is a good thing, as I wouldn't want TP-Link or Kasa plastered on my walls. Buyers of this device have praised its Wi-Fi signal strength and ease of use. If a dimmer and not just a rocker switch is what you are looking for, the HS220 might fit your requirements. Besides the standard light switch, it has two extra buttons, with which lights are dimmed. Due to its dimming capabilities, the HS220 can gradually turn off a light, instead of switching directly from on to off. Finally, the KS230 replaces traditional 3-way switches commonly found in living rooms, stairways, and hallways. As with the HS200 and HS220, a neutral wire is required, and like the latter, it is capable of dimming the lights it controls.

Kasa smart dimmers and switches work flawlessly with the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. Perhaps more importantly for you, dear reader, they also integrate with Home Assistant. I advise double-checking the compatibility before you purchase anything. In the past, TP-Link been up to some shenanigans and decided to remove local access, for which I can't wholeheartedly recommend their products. If you do go with any of the switches talked about in this article, make sure you don't upgrade the firmware, or only do so after checking what other users have to say.

If you need something more advanced is what you are looking for, the Kasa Smart Motion Sensor Switch ES20M might pique your interest. Besides the main and dimming switches, it packs a motion sensor and ambient light sensor into the same package. These sensors allow you to fully automate whatever light you might have hooked up to the switch. As with the other smart switches and dimmers linked in this article, the ES20M is UL certified, meaning it should pose no risk to your home.
